Berat, “City of a Thousand windows” designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008.
The name Berát has been derived through Albanian sound changes from the Old Slavonic Bělgrad, meaning "White City".
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Tirana at 08:30 – 09:00 and head south towards Berat. After a 2-hour journey, we'll arrive at our destination. Discover one of the most beautiful ancient cities in central Albania and visit Mangalemi, Gorica and Kalaja, it’s 3 most symbolic districts.
The first stop on the tour will be Berat Castle, located at the top of a hill. Accompanied by the guide, we'll tour this imposing construction and talk about its history. The medieval Castle of Berat houses old churches, museums and iconography by the greatest Albanian artists as well as old bazaars, cafes, and a surprisingly vibrant local life. Then we'll visit another one of Berat's jewels, the famous Onufri Museum, located inside the Cathedral of the Assumption of Saint Mary. The church, which dates from the 18th century, houses numerous works by the painter Onufri.
Afterwards, we'll continue discovering other holy buildings such as the Lead Mosque, the King's Mosque and the Bachelors' Mosque. Following on, we'll go to the Gorica bridge over the Osum river, one of the most special places in Berat.
The tour will end returning to Tirana, arriving at your hotel at 4 – 5 PM.
