Tirana is the vibrant capital and largest city of Albania. It is in the center of the country, enclosed by mountains and hills, with Dajti mountain rising to the east and a slight valley to the northwest overlooking the Adriatic Sea in the distance.

Here's a guide to some must-visit spots in Tirana:


1. Skanderbeg Square
•    The heart of the city, this large public square is named after the national hero, George Kastrioti Skanderbeg. Here, you’ll find important landmarks, including the National History Museum, with its giant mosaic on the facade that tells the story of Albania’s past.
2. National History Museum
•    Located on Skanderbeg Square, this museum is a great place to learn about Albania’s fascinating history, from its ancient Illyrian roots to the communist era and beyond. The museum has a wide range of exhibits, including archaeological artifacts and multimedia displays.
3. Et'hem Bey Mosque
•    A stunning mosque located right by Skanderbeg Square, this mosque dates to the early 19th century and features beautiful frescoes and intricate architectural details. It’s one of the few buildings left from the Ottoman era in the heart of the city.
4. Bunk'Art Museums
•    Tirana is home to several former bunkers that have been transformed into museums. The Bunk'Art 1 and Bunk'Art 2 museums are particularly intriguing. They were originally built during the communist regime to protect the country from potential foreign invasions. Now, they house exhibitions on Albania’s communist past, as well as art and history.
5. Mount Dajti National Park
•    For a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, take a trip to Mount Dajti, located just outside Tirana. You can take a cable car ride (Dajti Ekspres) to the top, where you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the city and surrounding countryside. There are also hiking trails, restaurants, and a chance to immerse yourself in nature.
6. Tirana's Pazari i Ri (New Bazaar)
•    A vibrant market area recently renovated, Pazari i Ri is full of local produce, hand-made goods, and colorful street art. It's a great place to try local food, buy fresh produce, and experience the local atmosphere.
7. The Pyramid of Tirana
•    Originally built as a museum dedicated to the life of Enver Hoxha, the former communist leader, The Pyramid has been abandoned for years, but it's still a distinctive feature of the city’s skyline. In 2018, a new project was unveiled that would turn the Pyramid into an IT center for youth called TUMO Tirana, with a focus on computer programming, robotics, and startups. 

•    8. Tirana Art Gallery
If you're into contemporary art, this gallery is a must-visit. It showcases the work of Albanian and international artists, offering a look at the modern cultural scene in the country.
9. Grand Park (Parku i Madh)
•    A large park surrounding the Artificial Lake of Tirana, it’s perfect for a peaceful walk, cycling, or even a boat ride on the lake. It’s a great spot for locals and tourists to unwind.
10. Blloku District
•    Once off-limits to the public during the communist regime, Blloku has transformed into one of the trendiest districts in Tirana. With its lively cafes, bars, restaurants, and boutique shops, it’s a great place to experience modern-day Tirana and Albanian nightlife.
11. Rruga Murat Toptani (Toptani Street)
•    A pedestrian street that offers a mix of modern shops and historic sites, including Tirana Castle (Kalaja e Tiranës). It's a nice place to stroll, shop, or enjoy a coffee.
12. Tanner’s Bridge 
The Tanners' Bridge is an 18th-century Ottoman period stone footbridge located in Tirana, Albania. The bridge, built near the Tanners' Mosque, was once part of the Saint George Road that linked Tirana with the eastern highlands. It is well preserved monument and is part of Tirana’s modern center.
13. Tirana Mosaic
 It is believed to have been part of a 3rd-century Roman house, referred to by local archeologists as the 'Villa rustica'.The mosaic was declared a cultural monument in 1973. 

14. The Namazgah Mosque (The Great Mosque of Tirana) 
  It is the largest mosque in the Balkans.  The mosque was officially opened on October 10, 2024.
